My dedication to the indie author front

I am not only a writer, I am a reader (they go hand-in-hand after all). And seeing as how I am an indie author (check out the right navigation for purchase links to my ever-growing catalog) it would only make sense that I would read other indie authors.

I will say this — when I dedicate myself to something, I don’t monkey around. I go all out. That’s why I can say, with the exception only one author (Clive Barker) I will only be reading books written by indie authors. Why is that? I’m glad you asked.

There are a lot of indie authors out there, some of them brilliant writers who deserve far more attention than they are getting. There are some indie authors out there that are not so brilliant, but still write great stories. They too deserve my attention. These writers (of which I include myself) are on the forefront of something great and we are all working very hard to scratch out some semblance of a name for themselves. We do this without the help of a publisher behind us, spending our own money and time, hoping our name (or our brand) will catch hold. And believe me, it’s hard work.

I spend every waking moment trying to figure out how to break through. Twitter, Facebook, email, give aways, massaging blurbs and covers — it’s a 24/7 job and I know every indie author out there is going through the same thing.

My writing is my lifeline to my soul and I want so badly for the world to read my words and know landscape that exists in my mind and heart. I know I am not alone in the sentiment and, for that very reason, I plan on doing everything I can to help other indie writers out there. I will read indie authors, and only indie authors (save for Clive Barker — sorry, I can’t give up on him) and will always write reviews when I find a book favorable. I want every indie author out there to enjoy success…it can and will happen. But it won’t happen overnight. People need to read, review, and pass along a good recommendation to other readers. Shout it out, let readers know we exist.

This is serious pay-it-forward karma I am working for. I realize nothing is perfectly altruistic, but my heart is in the right place. I hope my efforts help other indie authors out there.
