Fabulous Friday: The evolution of a cover
Jan 6th
Good day my dearest lovelies. I’ve been wanting to write this post for quite some time now. Why have I hesitated? Mostly I was just waiting to reach the point where my ego wouldn’t be bruised by showing my very early efforts at creating covers for my own books. Of course I recently realized just how silly that was and thought What the hell? My fans, friends, clients, and Shero-wanna-bees would certainly enjoy seeing how my process and my skills have grown over the years. And besides, it’s not where you’ve been, it’s where you’re going. Right? Right!

Skip Abrahm and real-world heroes
Aug 25th
As many of you know, I am taking a very short breaking from the zombieverse to go back to some of my best friends in the Fringe Killer series. At the moment I am about twenty five percent complete with the first draft of Endgame and I wanted to share with you something I experienced last night while writing.
Back to the Fringe Killers: Feels like coming home
Aug 4th
Recently I had been torn about what to write next. I finished the first draft of Die Zombie Die, which meant I was now ready to start writing something new (I always have a first draft and first rewrites going at once). I developed two new ideas:
- A new zombie series, based on the world created in the I Zombie trilogy.
- A vampire novel.
Sample Sunday: Gothica
Jul 31st
In the second book of the “Fringe Killer” series, Detective Davenport finds herself dealing with horror brought to life from the past. A killer is terrorizing the same building that held him prisoner – decades ago.
A killer from the past manages to escape the bonds of time and redefines “horror” for Jamie Davenport. In this new entry to the “fringe-killer” series, Gothica, Detective Davenport finds herself dealing with horror brought to life from the past. This time the killer is terrorizing the same building that held him prison – decades ago. The building now serves as a club for the darker denizens of Louisville…and a breeding ground for the emotions needed to bring evil back to Gothica.
Weaving elements of both the horror and the thriller genres together, Gothica tells the tale of the past and the present as they collide in the darkest recesses of a club built upon suffering and sorrow. Jamie Davenport and Skip Abrahm are tossed into a world of gothic delights and horror as another Fringe Killer is brought to life. Many writers talk about music when referencing their work. I am very guilty of that. Not only do I often count on music to be my muse, I work it into my books in any way I can. Why? Music can so easily elicit mood and emotion in ways the written word alone can not always do. So music will crop up in my novels in the form of a simple mention of a title or artist or, in some cases, I will use lyrics (with permission by the artist of course.) And since music is such a strong influence over me and my work, I thought I would discuss how music worked its way into my currently published titles (and the titles I am working on.)

Interview with Skip Abrahm
Apr 1st
I thought it would be an interesting study in character to interview one of my favorite creations, Skip Abrahm. Skip is an officer on the Louisville Police Department and has been partnered with Jamie Davenport, serving as her mentor and best friend. Skip is also an openly gay man who brings light and life to any situation. Let’s see what Skip has to say.

Gothica update
Feb 28th
After much consideration, I have decided I am going to hold off on the publication of Gothica. There is a very good reason for this. Gothica is the second book in the “Fringe Killer” series and it makes no sense to relaunch this book prior to the launch of the first book in the series, A Blade Away. What this means is I have pushed the edit date of A Blade Away up so I can get this titles on sale as soon as possible. The end will certainly justify the means in this case.
One of the reasons for this, is that A Blade Away introduces both Jamie and Skip to the reader and I feel this introduction, although not necessary for the enjoyment of Gothica, very much helps to enrich the experience and give the read the full Jamie and Skip effect.
Sample Sunday: From Gothica 2nd Edition (to be released soon)

Skip Abrahm was a damn good cop. His unrelenting support of justice helped him to become one of Louisville’s finest. Equally, his unwavering support of his ex-partner Jamie Davenport, along with his sexual preference, gave him short passage to his new assignment. Skip was weaving his way through the crowded Yum! Center. What a name. Leave it to the good folks at Kentucky Fried Chicken to come up with a name like Yum! Center. It was, however, better than than the other option – The Kentucky Bucket. Oh well, he was glad to not be having to police the club from the previous night. Although clubs were his scene, Goth was not. Sweaty hot men in basketball uniforms, on the other hand…
Gothica update redux
Feb 22nd
I just heard back from my editor she has completed the second half of Gothica! What does this mean? It means it’s close to enjoying a complete relaunch. I do have some work to do on the ending, but that work should be completed so that Gothica will hit the shelves for the re-launch by next week. At least in theory.
Where did I find Jamie and Skip?
Feb 18th
I get this question a lot: “How did you come up with the main characters for your Fringe Killer series?” Because I get this question so much, I thought I would address it here. It’s a fun bit of trivia that might wind up having readers of this series change the way they interpret these two shameless, yet lovable, characters.
Gothica update
Feb 18th
Many of you might have noticed that Gothica has been pulled from the shelves. There is a very simple reason for this. Each of my books is going to get a fairly hard-core polishing thanks to Red Adept. My earlier works have been in serious need of this for some time now. It hasn’t been until recently that I lucked into my new editor whom I trust implicitly and will be giving each of my books a spit shine like they’ve never had.
